SASYASHYAMALA
Today we the HOD, Staff Members and Students of the
Botany Department of Bhandarkars’ Arts & Science College are releasing our Blog
“Sasyashyamala”.
It is an outcome of active work done by
the Staff and students. We have started this blog with the motto “Working together Growing together”.
On this happy occasion first we would
like to express our deep sense of gratitude to our Management for their
constant support in all our endeavours.
We are greatly indebted to our Principal
Dr. N. P.Narayana Shetty sir for his continuous encouragement and guidance, who
is an expert in availing application of computer technology and also a master
mind behind this venture. Sir is very successful in computerising the
attendance, marks etc of students of our college.
We are greatful to Dr. M.S. Joishi, Head,
Botany department of Canara College of Mangalore for having readily accepted
our invitation to release this blog.I am very happy to inform the gathering that Dr. Joishi who is also an expert in Cynobacteria.
This is a team
work which will surely enhance the all round development of the students and this will help our students to come out of their “cocoon” by involving themselves in
constructive activities.
Highlights of this blog are Home
Page, I, II & III B.Sc. Practical Manuals, Notes, Diagrams, Departmental
assets, Departmental activities, Nature’s Wonders, Light of
Knowledge, University Question Papers, Students Corner and Student Galaxy.
Special attraction of this blog is
Students’ Corner, which has articles written by the students. It is a forum for
free expression and is an attempt to inculcate writing skill among the
students. This is a platform for the display of hidden talents and creativity.
The main objective of this blog is to
motivate the students through electronic media, which is very essential in the
present day scenario. This project also saves paper and immensely contributes
to the Green Initiative. It is shocking to read that nearly 4 billion trees are
cut down each year for the manufacturing of paper, which is representing 35% of
all harvested trees. World’s consumption of paper has grown 400% in the last 40
years. Many environmentalists believe that world’s forests are being cut down
faster than they can grow. Being in Biology stream, it is our pleasure to
contribute to save our nature by minimizing the use of papers and by opting for
paperless technology.
In India forest cover has been reduced
from 37% during the British rule to less than 10% in the present situation. If
people are made aware of perils of destroying tree cover, situation will
definitely improve in future. People must be encouraged to plant more trees and
to prevent felling of trees.
Students can also have access to this
blog through their desktop, laptop and even through their smart phones at any
time any where. Unlike paper, through this blog we can update and share subject
related matters throughout the year. We have digitized some topics and uploaded
it to the blog and it will be a continuous process in future. Students can also
refer yester years question papers, which is of great help in obtaining better
results.
Our students deserve full throated
appreciation and admiration for their diligent and neat work. We request all our well wishers to join hands with us to take this blog to greater height in future.
We express our deep sense of gratitude
to Dr.K.G.Bhat, an eminent Scientist and Taxonomist of Udupi for having donated
his book “Flora of Udupi” for our students. A total of 33 books of worth Rs.
33000 (Rs. 1000/- each) was being issued to the students for their reference.
Our students are really lucky enough to have blessings of the great scientist.
We acknowledge the great service
rendered by all former Departmental Heads and staff members in upholding rich
tradition of the department. We also express our sincere thanks to all our
alumni for bringing the laurels to the department by their excellent
achievements.
We extend our sincere thanks to all
those who have given their ideas and time whole heartedly and generously and
for sharing their thoughts in fulfilling the objectives of this blogspot.
